Maison de Naissance's New Community Health Program Has Begun!

At Maison de Naissance (MN), our recently re-tooled Community Health Program took a big step forward in the month of April with the addition of six community-based outreach workers. Each of these six "MN Pwomote-yo" (MN Promoters) is responsible for visiting 50 houses in the northwest region of MN's zone of service. Their names are Jean Yrel, Lourna, Rosenie, Jean Victor, and Perpetue.

In the pilot phase of our new Community Health Program, home visits will occur monthly and will include a health census of household residents to verify MN's GPS-based household registration system. The promoters will provide information and references as necessary for pregnant women, new mothers, and children. They will bring MN's expertise and services to everyone in their locality assuring equal access to care for our mothers, children, and their communities.

Community Health is an essential program at MN. Through this retooled program, we will gain accurate and timely information that will reinforce and further our mission and vision to empower women living in destitute situations with high quality, free, and accessible healthcare. In turn, mothers receiving care at MN will be better equipped to raise children who are healthy, which will produce healthier families and result in healthy communities.
